James “Jimmy” Manogue and Dale Lawton were enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard Tank Company that was formed from young men from the Janesville, WI area in early 1940. They enlisted in response to the likelihood that the US would be drawn into the war already ravaging Europe and Asia. Jimmy was the older brother of Mary (Manogue) Cullen, and Dale Lawton was to be the father of Mike Lawton after his eventual return after the war. Jimmy Manogue never returned.
